Husna Samer

Husna Samer is an artist and oil painter whose artistic development was shaped by mentorships with various artists, each contributing to the evolution of her practice and her way of seeing. Her work emerges from a layered upbringing, marked by cultural memory, observation, and an acute sensitivity to internal states.

Samer’s practice explores identity, place, spirituality, and the spaces between the tangible and intangible. Working primarily through surrealism and symbolism, she creates dreamlike landscapes that reflect the complexity of the inner and outer self. Her work is concerned with states of transition and contradiction: between stillness and movement, permanence and change, belonging and displacement, remembering and forgetting. Drawing from personal and collective memory, cultural influences and Sufi thought; Samer uses symbolism and colour to explore the idea of self as something fluid and constantly becoming.
